Miss UAPB to host Shoes 4 Africa fashion show February 19

shoe4africaPINE BLUFF, Ark. – Alexis Cole believes community service is one of the biggest components of being Miss University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She wanted to coordinate a community service project that would not only reach out beyond the campus but expand on a global level. This led her to host a Shoes 4 Africa fashion show that will be held Wednesday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the L.A. Davis, Sr.  Student Union Lounge. Admission to the event is a pair of shoes that will be donated to Shoe4Africa.org.

Miss UAPB was inspired to do this project after watching a YouTube video she came across last year. The video displayed children walking around with cans and bottles on their feet.

“Watching this motivated me to take action! I began to brainstorm on unique ways to do the project that would not only be effective but also relatable to the student body and the community. The fashion show aspect of the project inspired me in an innovative way because I love fashion.”

About Shoe 4 Africa

When Shoe 4 Africa founder Toby Tanser left Kenya, to return to Sweden in 1995, he did so barefoot. He gave his last pair of shoes to a Nairobi taxi driver at the departures stand. That was pretty much the start of things. There is no end, but somehow that giving of one pair of shoes transpired into building East Africa’s first ever public children’s hospital. His motto is, “Do what you love: then it becomes you.” For more information about the organization, visit shoe4africa.org.
