Pine Bluff, Ark. – The Human Development and Family Studies Club at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will host its Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar at 6 p.m. Oct. 17, in the Adair-Greenhouse Auditorium (Home Economics Building). Chantelle Bonds is the club president. Dr. Janette Wheat serves as the club advisor.

Letsie Bass, director of UAPB Student Health Services and Jadette Reed, a junior early childhood education major at UAPB, will be the guest speakers.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. However, it is believed that the rates of those dying from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990 due to earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment.

A candle lighting ceremony will be held at UAPB in honor of or in memory of people affected by breast cancer. Members of the public are invited to come support the event.
