Comedy show to feature social media, stand-up stars

comedy show line up-compThe annual comedy show held during Homecoming Week at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will feature some of the most acclaimed talent on social media today. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the event will be held Monday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the J.M. Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts building. Admission is $5 for general public and free for UAPB students with a valid ID. The event is intended for audiences 18 years and older.

The show will be hosted by award-winning social media star Karlton Humes. Known online as NotKarltonBanks, Humes has a following of more than 600,000 fans who look forward to his various characters, including fan favorite LeeLee. The Hayti, Missouri native and former UAPB student has accomplished making the world laugh based off his own experiences at church. With constant re-posts and re-tweets, comes popularity. Recently, Humes garnered the Internet Sensation Award at the 2017 Soul Train Music Awards.

The comedic line up will feature B Phlat, D’Lai, Dukk and Eastside IVO. Heavy hitter Beverly Nelson, known as B Phlat, went from Marketing Director for one of Philadelphia’s largest law firms to doing standup comedy. Her comedy is different and unlike many female comics. She urges women to take a closer look to improve and empower themselves so everything else will fall into place. Having started her career six years ago, she has accomplished many impressive credits. B Phlat has been a host and headliner on the RJE Urban Comedy Cabaret Tour, which is the largest, highest grossing, and longest running comedy tour catering to colleges/ universities in the nation. She has also been featured on numerous television shows such as Showtime at the Apollo, four seasons of BET’s Comicview, a writer for ESPN Magazine, and host for several celebrity events such as Russell Simmon’s Phat Farm Fashion Show & Def Comedy Jam in Negril, Jamaica, FUBU International Okwaku Festival in Amsterdam and most recently, a corporate sponsorship by Donyell Marshall’s Triple D Productions.

Davetrick Laird, known as D’Lai, has excelled as a standup comic and impressionist, playing to large audiences in a variety of theaters. Hailing from Alexandria, Louisiana, it was there that he would derive his unique brand of comedy. His first appearance came at the local Funny Bone Club in Baton Rouge, LA. Now residing in the city of entertainment, Las Vegas, Nevada, this vibrant star has gone on to appear on BET’s ComicView, Live in Hollywood, and was the winner of the 2004 Las Vegas Star Search. D’Lai has opened for great acts such as Eddie Griffin and the late Dick Gregory.

Deandre Corder, better known as “Dukk,” burst onto the scene as one of the most unpredictable comedic actors on the web and stage. Dukk debuted his talent on YouTube and was an instant success. His YouTube series highlighted stereotypes in national Greek letter organizations and went viral within days – breaking records of 100,000 views. Dukk has provided consistent laughter on the web through his weekly releases of music parodies, comedy skits and on-stage clips that have captured hundreds of thousands of views. With his success thus far, Dukk has been able to take his platform to new heights – gracing the stages of both traditional and private colleges and universities.

Eastside IVO initially gained a following through Instagram and Vine. He has earned more than 2.5 million followers on Instagram in addition to surpassing 1.2 million page likes on Facebook. His online success led him to opportunities as a motivational speaker and host.
