On Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m., the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will host the University of Arkansas System’s Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture Series at the John McLinn Ross Theatre in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. Julieanna L. Richardson, Founder and Executive Director of The HistoryMakers is the speaker.

Richardson, whose organization houses the single largest archival collection of its kind, will lecture on “Why Entrepreneurship Now.” Founded in 1999 in Chicago, IL, The HistoryMakers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational institution whose goal is to complete 5,000 interviews of both well-known and unsung African Americans to refashion a more inclusive record of American history. Currently, 7,000 hours of African American testimony is recorded on videotape.
In addition to her evening lecture, Richardson will visit a mass communications class and the John Brown Watson Memorial Library to meet with library staff. She will also take a private tour of the University Museum and Cultural Center followed by a private reception at Childress Hall.
Richardson received a B.A. in Theatre Arts and American Studies from Brandeis University, a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School, and an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Howard University. She worked as a corporate lawyer before serving as the City of Chicago’s Cable Administrator. There, she established the Chicago Cable Commission, the City’s regulatory body. Richardson later founded Shop Chicago, a regionally based home shopping channel, and a production company, SCTN Teleproductions, which managed three local cable channels for TCI, then the nation’s largest cable operator. SCTN Teleproductions served as the production arm for C-SPAN.
