Rodrequis Thompson, a junior majoring in Industrial Technology Management and Applied Engineering from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, is currently working as a summer intern at Evergreen Packaging Pine Bluff Mill.
Evergreen Packaging is a world leader in fiber-based liquid packing solutions, publication and converting papers. The Pine Bluff mill produces packaging board and coated publication paper. The company partnered with UAPB to place students in Cooperative Education and internship experiences that will provide hands on experience in their field of study.
Thompson received the opportunity through his connection with the Office of Career Services. He registered with the office during his freshman year and maintains interaction with his career coach. Although he is a student that takes pride in enjoying his college life, he knows how to maintain balance. His current grade point average is 3.76. Thompson is a member of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy, National Society of Black Engineers, and the Carolyn Blakely Honors College. In addition, he attended the 2017 National Society of Black Engineers Conference in Kansas City, Missouri and was offered an internship opportunity for the summer of 2018.
The Office of Career Services provides many opportunities for the student to obtain hands on experience in their field of study through Cooperative Education and internship experiences. When students register with Career Services, the career coach assists them with developing a professional resume and a four to five-year plan for success. This plan prepares them for a successful transition from college to the real world of work.
UAPB students are encouraged to register with the Office of Career Services as a freshman so that they can take advantage of all the services that are offered. For more information, students should stop by Caldwell Hall, Suite 202 or call 870-575-8461.
