Dr. Jayant Lohakare has been appointed associate professor of animal science for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Department of Agriculture. In this position he will teach undergraduate and graduate courses on subjects including animal science, poultry science, livestock production, animal nutrition, animal health issues and epidemiology.
In addition to teaching courses and advising students, he will also be responsible for developing a research program focusing on the health and production efficiency of livestock applicable to small and mid-size farms. Other duties will include serving on committees for the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences and university.

Dr. Lohakare has a doctorate degree in animal nutrition from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Izatnagar, India and a master’s degree in animal nutrition from the National Dairy Research Institute in Karnal, India. He earned a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science and animal husbandry from Nagpur Veterinary College in Nagpur, India.
Prior to this position, Dr. Lohakare worked as an instructor of animal foods technology for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. From 2009 to 2014, he was an assistant professor at the College of Animal Life Science at Kangwon National University in Chuncheon, South Korea, where he had also previously served as a visiting scientist and post-doctoral fellow.
From 2008 to 2009, he was a researcher at the Animal Nutrition Group at the University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany. He worked as a technical services manager for Avitech Nutrition, a leading supplier of animal nutrition products in India, from 2001 to 2003.
Dr. Lohakare’s professional memberships include the American Society of Animal Science, the Animal Nutrition Society of India and the Animal Nutrition Association.
He has authored and co-authored a number of journal articles and book chapters on subjects including biotechnology, animal nutrition and animal health. He currently serves on the editorial boards on the Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology Journal and the International Journal of Veterinary Health Science and Research, and is an editorial member of the Journal of Experimental and Applied Animal Sciences and Annals of Animal Resource Sciences.
