University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) students Whitney Harris and Brielle Taylor have been afforded the opportunity to intern with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for the summer. Federal Reserve Bank has been working closely with the Office of Career Services to seek candidates for internship and permanent positions. Both students are May 2017 graduates and, if given the opportunity, would like to continue their career with them.
Harris, a business marketing major, is from Granite City, Illinois and is excited about obtaining an opportunity close to home. She participated in several cooperative education and summer internship opportunities prior to graduating. Her first experience through the Office of Career Services was during her junior year at The Strong Company in Pine Bluff where she held the position of Marketing Assistant. Harris was a student-athlete and very involved on campus but did not let her involvement deter her from what was most important, academic and work achievements. She was able to juggle her schedule and maintain a grade point average of 3.5. During the summer of 2016, she was offered an internship with Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis where she received an overall outstanding rating for her work ethic. At the conclusion of the internship, she was extended an offer to return as an intern during the summer of 2017.
Brielle Taylor, a business finance major from Detroit, Michigan, has also gained quite a bit of experience through the Office of Career Services. She registered with the office during her sophomore year and stayed fully involved until graduation. Taylor didn’t have the high grade point average coming in to the University but she promised herself that she would turn it all around. She became very serious about academics and being involved on campus. Her grade point average increased to a 3.2 and she became the president of the accounting and investment clubs. During that time, Taylor was able to visit the Federal Reserve Banks of St. Louis and New York. This sparked an interest in her and she expressed her desire to gain experience in the banking field to her Career Coach in the Office of Career Services. Soon after, Taylor obtained cooperative education experience at Relyance Bank in Pine Bluff where she too received an overall outstanding rating for her work ethic. Prior to graduation, Taylor interviewed and received an offer from Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for an internship during the summer of 2017.
The internship salary ranges from $13-$18 per hour and could ultimately lead to a permanent position based on their individual performance. The starting salary range for graduates with experience is $50,000 – $55,000 per year.
The Office of Career Services is here to assist UAPB students with career preparation. Students are encouraged to register with the office during their freshman year so they can take full advantage of the services provided. Career Services is located in Caldwell Hall, Suite 202.
