Dr. Brittini Brown, director for Student Affairs Assessment, Research, and Strategic Priorities at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, will deliver the keynote speech for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s 2017 Founders and Honors Awards Convocation. The free, public event will take place Thursday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kenneth L. Johnson HPER Complex.
The convocation recognizes the academic achievement of students on the annual honor roll, salutes students who will receive scholarships for the next academic year, and provide an opportunity to reflect on Dr. Joseph Carter Corbin’s lasting imprint on the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Founders and Honors Awards Convocation is a continuation of the annual week-long Founders Celebration at UAPB. Now in its 144th year of existence, this year’s theme is “Expanding the Influence of Our Legacy.” The full schedule of events can be found at www.uapb.edu/founders .
A 2007 Summa Cum Laude alumna of UAPB’s regulatory science program, Dr. Brown is expanding the influence of UAPB’s legacy through her scholarly works. Dr. Brown’s work has been featured in MSIs Unplugged, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, and the American Council on Education Blog. She has also presented her research at national conferences hosted by the American Educational Research Association, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity, the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education, and the Association for Public Land-Grant Universities. Brown is also a Center Affiliate at the Center for Minority Serving Institutions at the University of Pennsylvania where her contributions have been specifically related to elevating the success of students and professors at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
A native of Augusta, Arkansas, Dr. Brown also holds a M.S. in Industrial and Agricultural Technology from Iowa State University and received her doctoral degree in Youth Development and Agricultural Education (YDAE) from Purdue University. Not only was she the first African-American woman to graduate with a doctoral degree from the department, she was also recently awarded the YDAE 2016 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. Brittini was also recently recognized as the 3rd place recipient of the Dissertation Award from the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education.
