Arkansas Affiliate of AAFCS to Meet April 20-21 at UAPB

17918224_787467392432_594912638_nThe Arkansas Affiliate of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) will meet April 20-21 at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Hosted by the UAPB Department of Human Sciences, the conference gets underway at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 20 with registration at the Adair-Greenhouse Human Sciences Auditorium.

“The conference is aimed at family and consumer sciences and related professionals working in education, service, medical and business settings,” said Dr. Janette Wheat, Arkansas Affiliate AAFCS president and conference chair. Family and consumer sciences college students are also urged to attend as AAFCS has student chapters. Theme of the two-day conference is “Working Together through Local and Global Connections.”

Thursday’s sessions include saving money by minimizing food waste, a theatrical performance by Twisted Kreationz, a domestic violence community walk to the UAPB Bell Tower, a board meeting and laboratory tours within the human sciences building.

The second day of the conference begins at 9 a.m. at the UAPB STEM Conference Center Banquet Room. Friday’s topics include a domestic violence survivor’s story, a student fashion line seminar, an early childhood discussion on making local connections for the sake of Arkansas’s children, and the global influence on the art of fashion – Europe, Asia and Africa.

The conference also includes a business meeting, silent auction, presentation of scholarships and installation of officers.
