Jeremy Ward, an 11th grade student at Ridgway Christian High School, was awarded the Best of Fair Winner at the annual Science Fair Exposition at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. His award-winning project, “Tiny Titans: Induced Sporulation in Bacillus anthracis,”was represented in the microbiology category. His award included a tablet device and a one-time academic award to attend UAPB.
With 325 students and 164 projects registered, schools that participated included Pine Bluff School High School, Robert F. Morehead, Jack Robey Junior High School, Watson Chapel Junior High School, Stuttgart High School, Ridgway Christian High School, Ridgway Christian School, Little Rock Central High School, Mabelvale Middle School, Dunbar Magnet Middle School, Forest Heights STEM Academy, and Quest Middle School.
The science fair exposition is conducted as an affiliated regional fair, following the state and national mandated rules governing research and the presentation/display of results. Preparation for college through the science fair experience strengthens students’ skills in math/science and develops personal skills related to dedication, perseverance and organization, which are vital to success in high school and college.
