A fruit pruning demonstration will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s S.J. Parker 1890 Extension Complex auditorium at the corner of Oliver Road and L.A. “Prexy” Davis Drive.
The workshop is sponsored by the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service, Master Gardeners of Jefferson County and UAPB’s Cooperative Extension Program. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the demonstration beginning at 10 a.m. Participants should bring their own pruning equipment and tools.
“Late winter to early spring is the right time for fruit growers in Arkansas to prune their fruit trees,” Shaun Francis, Extension horticulture specialist for UAPB, said. “Seeing pruning conducted during a demonstration will help first-time growers understand this essential process, which helps guarantee tree health and a larger, tastier harvest of fruit.”
The workshop is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending the pruning workshop should call the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service office at 870-534-1033 to pre-register.
