The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir will present Handel’s “Messiah” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
The 62nd annual performance of this masterpiece signals the start of the celebration of the Christmas season at UAPB. The performance will be conducted by Vesper Choir Director Michael J. Bates. He is assisted by John Graham, director of bands, and Andee Book, voice instructor and assistant choir director.
Accompanying the Vesper Choir will be string players from the Little Rock and Memphis areas, members of the UAPB bands, adjunct UAPB faculty members Byron Gregory, clarinet; and violinist, Judy Warner; and flutist, Donna Lee-Thomas, a music instructor in the Pine Bluff School District. Demarr Woods, newly appointed faculty member in the music department, will be the special trumpet soloist.
Student soloists will be YaShontae Joyner, junior music major from Moscow, Tennessee, and Naocea Evans, senior music major from Texarkana, sopranos; Wantara Tomlin, junior biology major from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Robin Roberts, senior music major from Memphis, altos; Davante Thornton, senior music major from Hope, and Gerald Jones, senior chemistry major from New Orleans, tenors; and Ricky Wade, junior music major, from Little Rock, bass.
Special guest alumni soloists will be tenor, Leon Walker and Jacob Hurley, bass, both from Kansas City, Missouri, and Pine Bluff native, Robin Tisdale, soprano soloist.
