High school anglers from seven states will gather at Jefferson County Regional Park to participate in the 2015 Southern Conference Regional High School Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 17. Takeoff for the bass tournament on the Arkansas River will be at 7 a.m. with weigh-in scheduled for 3 p.m.
The tournament will consist of a maximum of 40 teams from Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The top three teams after weigh-in will advance to the national championship.
Fun, educational activities will be open to the public during the tournament from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Waterfront Building in Regional Park. Activities include fishing clinics and demonstrations hosted by aquaculture/fisheries specialists from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). A children’s fishing derby will be held at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Rhinehart Road. Food vendors will be at the Regional Park boat ramp throughout the day.
