The annual Homecoming Celebration at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will begin November 8 with a gospel concert and end November 14 with an exciting football game. The theme for this year is “Golden” according to Dr. Charles Colen, Homecoming Committee chairperson.
The overview of activities includes events for students, alumni and the community at large:
On Sunday, November 8, the celebration will begin with the Gospel Extravaganza at 7:00 p.m. in the J.M. Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the event will feature choirs from surrounding colleges including Henderson State University, Yard Voices of Praise and more. Admission to the event is $5 for general public, $3 for area students with a school ID, and free to UAPB students with a valid ID.
A new kickoff event, Golden Fest, will be held Monday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m. in the Shirley A. Jacob Lion’s Den. A comedy show will be held that evening at 7:00 p.m. in the J.M. Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts building.
On Tuesday, November 10 the momentum continues with the Black and Gold Pride Assembly at 11:00 a.m. in the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr., Health Physical Education Recreation (HPER) Complex. All attendees are invited to wear their black and gold, bring their pompons and school spirit to the free, public event.
On Wednesday, November 11 Brianna Allen will be crowned the 86th Miss University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff during the Coronation Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the HPER Complex arena. The Coronation Ball will begin immediately after at the same location. Formal attire is required.
For alumni, the Homecoming Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, November 12, at 8:30 a.m. at Harbor Oaks Golf Course. Registration information can be obtained by calling the Office of Alumni Affairs at (870) 575-8498.
The annual Street Jams will be held later that day from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. at the W.E. O’Bryant bell tower. Sponsored by Wal-Mart and the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, the event will include a variety of foods, vendors, and outdoor games. That afternoon, the UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association will sponsor a Student/Alumni Mixer at 4:00 p.m. in the Sylvester Early auditorium of Henderson-Young Hall.
Festivities will continue with Senior Stunt Night at 6:00 p.m. the J.M. Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. Sponsored by the senior class, tickets to the event are $4 for general admission and $3 with a canned good. The Marching Musical Machine of the Midsouth (M4) marching band will conclude the day with a bonfire at 10:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the HPER Complex.
On Friday, November 13 The Annual Alumni Assembly will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the HPER Arena. Following the assembly, the National Alumni Association will be hosting a luncheon in STEM Academy and Conference Center. Tickets for the event are $35 per person.
Friday evening, doors will open at 6 p.m. in the HPER Complex arena for the Greek Show. Sponsored by National Pan Hellenic Council, tickets will be available for purchase at the UAPB bookstore. Early birds can take advantage of discounts if they act quickly: tickets will be $10 /person November 2-6; $15/person November 9-13; and $20 at the door.
The Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Pine Bluff Convention Center Ballroom. Tickets are $75/person and can be purchased by calling the Alumni Association at (870) 536-2309.
On the day of the game, Saturday, November 14, the Annual Homecoming Parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. and will begin on begin on Main street, turn at 6th street, proceed on Walnut, return to Main and finish at the Courthouse.
Pre-game activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Golden Lion Stadium. Kick-off time is 2:30 p.m. where the Golden Lions will play the Tigers of Grambling State University. A Band Marching Festival will be held that evening at 7:00 p.m. in the HPER Arena.
