The School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff was recognized for its increased student enrollment at the Golden Lions Ain’t-No-Stopping-Us-Now Watch-Us-Grow Celebration Reception hosted by Dr. Laurence B. Alexander, Chancellor, on September 18.
The Department of Human Sciences received the first-place Golden Lion Recruitment award of $10,000 for a 433 percent increase of new students with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The department increased its enrollment from three new 3.0 students in 2014 to 16 for the fall semester of 2015.
The Department of Agriculture received the second-place award of $2,500 for a 116.7 percent increase in new students with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
According to the Office of Enrollment Management and Student Success, the Golden Lion Recruitment Awards are one-time, non-recurring bonuses to provide additional incentives for individual units to develop and execute student success initiatives. The awards program focuses heavily on the recruitment, application, admission and enrollment of new students, which includes new freshmen and transfer students.
The awards accompany an increase in freshmen enrollment and total student enrollment at UAPB. First-time freshmen enrollment increased by 38 percent, with 684 students enrolled. Overall student enrollment, including graduate students, increased by 6.1 percent, with the total student population at 2,666. Last year, UAPB enrolled 496 new freshmen and 2,513 students overall.
