Health courses to be offered during the summer

The Division of Continuing Education and Graduate Studies will be offering new health courses online during the summer at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for persons interested in developing a promisingmb-c career in healthcare. Offered as the result of a partnership with Condensed Curriculum International (CCI), the courses offered can be taken online or in person and include clinical hours. The new courses are as follows:

The Clinical Medical Assistant Program prepares students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of a medical office. Offered June 15th –September 21st, instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, pharmacology, taking and documenting vital signs, technical aspects of phlebotomy, the 12-lead EKG and the cardiac life cycle. This program also includes an optional clinical externship at a local healthcare provider.

The Medical Billing & Coding course offers the skills needed to perform complex coding and billing procedures. Offered June 23rd–August 27th, this combined 80-hour course covers CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation, and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology, and laboratory), ICD-9 (Introduction and Guidelines), and basic claims processes for insurance reimbursements.

The EKG Technician Program prepares students to perform EKG’s. This highly interactive course is offered June 22nd-August 10th and will include information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, and legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing.
