UAPB Art department to host High School Portfolio Day 

The Department of Art at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will be hosting High School Portfolio Day Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The free, public event will be held in Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts building. All interested students should bring 10-20 traditional, visual art or design works, which may be executed in any medium, in black-and-white or color, and may include, but are not limited to: drawing; painting; graphic design; color and design; printmaking; collage; photography; sculpture; jewelry; fashion; furniture or fiber art. Portfolio pieces may represent classroom assignments as well as independent projects. The portfolio should be purposeful, demonstrate originality of concept, use of appropriate materials and visual literacy.

Students should bring their sketchbook or visual verbal journal filled with creative ideas, art class assignments, working from direct observation, experimenting with media and techniques for UAPB art faculty to review.  Portfolios will be reviewed meritoriously on the following qualitative measures: aesthetic awareness; composition; drawing; design; color perception; spatial perception; presentation quality; technique and originality. Scholarship consideration will be given to strong 2-D and 3-D work that shows attention to technique, drawing, scale and original design.  Students will be given a tour of the classrooms, studio labs, facility equipment, fine art gallery, and the computer graphics lab with the newest iMac computers, scanners and software.
