The Arkansas Rollin Lions RV Club, Inc. members are not only “die hard” Golden Lion sports fans, but they are also supportive of the entire university and it’s students. At their annual University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) scholarship fundraiser and social event, members brought toiletries and food storage bags to donate to the UAPB Student Food Pantry.
“I received several calls from our members asking me to find out about how the Rollin Lions could donate to the pantry,” Kenneth Smith, president of the club said.
This developed into an idea that members would bring food pantry items to donate to the annual social event, Smith said. The response was “overwhelmingly successful.”
“We truly appreciate the Rollin Lions for their much needed donations,” Rita Conley, UAPB Food Pantry faculty advisor, said.
The pantry has consistently received calls from organizations that would like to help since its grand opening in March. “This is encouraging, since the only way the pantry can be sustained is by the support of many organizations and individuals,” Conley said.
The UAPB student food pantry is a signature project of the Arkansas Pine Bluff Collegiate 4-H and Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) Clubs in the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences. All students currently enrolled at the university with a valid ID are eligible to use the pantry. A first-time visit intake form for reporting purposes is required. However, the intake form is not used to determine eligibility.
The Food Pantry is located on the UAPB campus in the Human Sciences Building, Room 228. It is open for distributions on the third Thursday of each month from 2-4 p.m. and by appointment.
