UAPB to mark 142 years during Founder’s Celebration

founders-scrollherePINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Inaugural Founders and Honors Convocation is the beginning of a new Founder’s Celebration tradition for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. This noble event to be held Thursday, April 23rd, combines two time-honored activities into one momentous occasion that acknowledges University heritage and academic competence concurrently. The theme is “Honoring the Legacy: Blending the Past and Future.” Activities for the week will begin Tuesday April 21st and continue through Sunday April 26th, according to university officials.

Founder’s Celebration is a tradition that has continued for over 60 years, blending academics, social activities, and history in an effort to communicate not only the history of the University, but also the importance of remembering how history built the school into what it is today. The formal celebration of Founder’s Day can be dated back to 1943. The original celebration lasted a full week, with officials making sure that the activities were varied and culturally rich, all while showing the growth that Arkansas AM&N achieved.

The annual UAPB Honors and Awards Convocation is a recognition ceremony honoring the intellectual achievement of campus students by awarding plaques, certificates and scholarships.
