Area commercial vegetable production clinic set for April 10 in Marianna

veg-prodPINE BLUFF, Ark. – An area vegetable production clinic aimed at commercial vegetable growers is scheduled for 8 a.m., Friday, April 10, at the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station in Marianna, Ark.

Although the targeted audiences are commercial growers, those selling at farmers markets, local gardeners and Master Gardeners, the meeting is open to anyone interested in gardening, says Dr. Henry English, director of the Small Farm Program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Topics include disease, weed and insect control in vegetables; U.S Department of Agriculture agencies’ updates and production information on growing cucumbers, watermelons, squash, cantaloupes, bell peppers, eggplant, sweet potatoes, southern peas and greens.

The meeting will adjourn after a noon lunch. The cotton research station is located on Highway 1 South. To get there, from I-40, take Exit 239 and head south on the bypass to Highway 1. Stay on Highway 1 going through Marianna. Continue three miles south of Marianna. The station is on the east side (left) of Highway 1.
