PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s internationally renowned Vesper Choir will be kicking off their spring 2015 tour in New York City, New York March 23-27. The Vesper choir has performed in several cities foreign and domestic, including Venice, Los Angeles, Chicago. Director Dr. Michael Bates stated that the Vesper Choir raised more than $70,000 dollars to fund the tour from performances and generous donations from Apple, UAPB alumni, longtime friends, and supporters of the choir.
The tour will be the last one for Vesper Choir President Andrea Jenkins who will be graduating this semester. She related that she will miss participating in annual performances such as Messiah, spring concerts along with the friendships that were cultivated, and life as a member of the choir. Jenkins will also miss Dr. Bates because he is like a father to all of them.
“The Vesper Choir has been a journey of growth and it has a family atmosphere…[it’s] taught me a lot of responsibility,” said Jenkins. “New York is a big city and we have a lot of ground to cover. I’m excited about the people we will meet and the experiences we will have – it’s a huge platform compared to Pine Bluff!”
The spring tour is part of the National Festival of the States and will include performances at the Historic Manhattan Seventh-day Adventist Church, a recital at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and final performance at Trump Tower. The tour is organized by Music Celebrations International.
