PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Celebrating this year’s return of the musical Cinderella to Broadway, featuring Kiki Palmer in the title role and sure to be a hit with our young audiences, the John McLinn Ross Players at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff present, Cinderella: The Remix. Crafted by Psalmeyene 24, the playwright of their 2010 hit Zomo the Rabbit: a Hip Hop Creation Myth, Cinderella lives in the basement of her stepmother’s house, mixing beats and dreaming of being a DJ. But in “Hip-Hop Hollywood” it is illegal for girls to DJ. When the super famous rapper J Prince announces auditions for his “Jam”, Cinderella disguises herself as a boy to get the gig. With some help from her Fairy Godmother Hoperah, Cinderella DJs the party (at least until midnight)! Will she ever be allowed to spin as her true self?
Directed by Cheryl Collins, director of theatre at UAPB, Cinderella: The Remix will make its debut February 19 through the 22 in the J.M. Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts building.
Area schools are welcome to attend 10:00 a.m. matinees. General public performances times are as follows: February 19-21 at 7:30 pm; and February 21-22 at 3:00 pm.
