PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Yunru Shen has been appointed as instructor in merchandising, textiles and design for the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). She will teach undergraduate courses in apparel design, fashion illustration and fashion buying and merchandising.
Shen will also recruit and advise students, provide leadership for program development and develop collaborative relationships with businesses and industry.
“We are pleased to welcome Ms. Shen to the department,” Dr. Brenda Martin, chair of the Department of Human Sciences, said. “She brings a range of experience as a fashion designer and patternmaker to the program.”
Prior to this position, Shen worked in fashion design at KISMET+, a women’s fashion studio located in Shanghai, China. There she participated in the conceptual development of product lines and created designs using the Japanese one-piece draping technique and advanced patternmaking.
In 2013, Shen worked as a designer for Edun Americas Inc., a fashion brand founded to promote fair trade in Africa by sourcing production within the continent.
Shen has a master’s degree in fashion from Savannah College of Art and Design and a bachelor’s degree in fashion design from Raffles College of Design and Commerce in Sydney, Australia.
