PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The week-long Homecoming celebration at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will begin November 2 with a gospel concert and end November 8 with an exciting football game. The theme for this year is “Fear the Roar” according to Dr. Charles Colen, Homecoming Committee Chairperson.
The overview of activities for the week include events for students as well as alumni:
On Sunday, November 2, festivities will begin with the Gospel Extravaganza at 6:00 p.m. in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the event will feature Rome Washington, Season 7 contestant of BET Sunday Best®. Admission to the event is $3 for general public and free to UAPB students with a valid ID.
The concert will be followed by the Go Glo Late Night Kick-off at 10:00 p.m. around the W.E. O’Bryant Bell Tower.
This year’s schedule includes a change of this pace by moving the Black and Gold Pride Assembly to Monday, November 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr. HPER Complex. Senior Stunt Night will be held that night at 7 p.m. in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building.
On Tuesday, November 4 the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy and Conference Center will make its debut with an Open House event at 10:30 a.m. Later that day at 7 pm a talent show will be held in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. Both events are free and open to the public.
On Wednesday, November 5 “Jazz in the Café” will be presented in the L.A. Davis, Sr., Student Union Cafeteria. The cost is $7.24 for non-meal plan diners. All alumni, students, family and friends are invited to attend this SGA sponsored event.
Continuing with Wednesday, Miss UAPB will be officially crowned during the Coronation Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., in the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr., Health Physical Education Recreation (HPER) Complex. The Coronation Ball will begin immediately following the ceremony at the same location.
For alumni, the Homecoming Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, November 6, at 8:30 a.m., at Harbor Oaks Golf Course. Registration information can be obtained by calling (870) 575-8498.
The annual Street Jams and Bonfire will be held Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the HPER Complex parking lot. Sponsored by Wal-Mart, this event will include a variety of foods, vendors, outdoor games and a pep rally with the marching band.
The Annual Alumni Assembly will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 7 in the HPER Arena. Following the Alumni Assembly, the Student Government Association will have a round-up at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Union Lounge. At 2 p.m., the Young, Black and Bold Yard Show will be held at the same location.
Friday evening, doors will open at 5 p.m. Friday in the HPER Complex arena for the Greek Show. Tickets are $7 in advance and $12 at the door and can be purchased at the UAPB bookstore beginning next week.
On the day of the game, Saturday, November 8, the Annual Homecoming Parade will begin on 8th and Walnut streets making a right onto 3rd Street, a left onto Main Street and then proceeding north to its end at the Jefferson County Courthouse on Barraque Street.
Pre-game activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Golden Lion Stadium. Kick off time is 2:30 p.m. when the Golden Lions will play the Panthers of Prairie View A&M University.
A Band Marching Festival will be held that evening at 7 p.m. in the HPER Arena.
