Dr. Linda L. Okiror selected to head enrollment management at UAPB

linda-okirorPINE BLUFF, Ark. – Dr. Linda L. Okiror, former associate dean for the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences has been selected as the new Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). In her new position, she is responsible for the development and leadership of programs that create opportunities for the recruitment of new students and the success and retention of continuing students at UAPB with an understanding for the culturally diverse environment of higher education and an appreciation for students’ backgrounds, experiences and potential.

“Dr. Okiror’s experience as a professor and administrator in the trenches on student success has positioned her for outstanding leadership in growing our student enrollment and helping students succeed to graduation,” said UAPB Chancellor Dr. Laurence B. Alexander.

“The Division of Student Affairs is very pleased to have Dr. Linda Okiror join us as Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Elbert Bennett. “Dr. Okiror brings to the Division 17 years of academic experience from her previous position and more than five years of involvement with Enrollment Management at UAPB.”

Dr. Okiror holds a PhD in crop physiology from the University of Minnesota and masters of education from Trenton State College in Trenton, New Jersey. She has been employed at UAPB since 1996 in the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences most recently as Associate Dean for Academic Programs. She has served the university as a member of the enrollment management administrative team since 1998. She is the 2008 founder and Director of Learning Institute and Opportunities for New Students (LIONS) Program, Director of Education Assessment and Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Success.

Dr. Okiror has authored and co-authored grants in support of student success and faculty development of more than $1.5 million and has more than 15 years’ experience with summer bridge programs and programs for faculty development. She also taught the senior-level course Interpersonal Skills and Negotiation Techniques from 1996 to 2012 that included the principals of effective communication and the dynamics of interpersonal and intercultural behavior for effective negotiation.

Dr. Okiror has made presentations at local, state, regional and national on her experience and knowledge of student success programming and faculty development. She serves on multiple university committees, is a member of the Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture, the Arkansas Association for Developmental Education, the Arkansas College Personnel Association, and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Dr. Okiror also serves the broader community as a board member for: the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Clean and Beautiful Commission; the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Beautification Facilities Board; the League of Women Voters of Arkansas; and the Friends of the White Hall Library. She is a volunteer with the Jefferson County Red Cross.
