PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Dr. Jaheon Koo, an associate professor in the Department of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, has become a Certified Food Scientist. He earned the credential through a peer review process conducted by the Chicago-based Institute of Food Technologists. Applicants must have more than 15 years of experience in the food science profession to obtain the CFS certification.
The designation recognizes the applied scientific knowledge and skills of food scientists. The certification program is designed to meet the international standards for personnel certification programs, and is a way for food scientists to demonstrate their expertise and commitment to the profession.
Dr. Koo has worked at UAPB since 2003 in the area of regulatory science. His responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate students, working on food processing and food safety research, developing value added fruit and vegetable products, and providing technical assistance to farmers and food processors.
