PINE BLUFF, Ark. – An exhibit featuring Artist Carole Katchen was opened recently at the Leedell Moorehead-Graham Fine Arts Gallery at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). Located inside the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Center, the exhibit is free and open to the public and can be viewed until May 15.

Far from being just an artist, Katchen is a “Master Artist” and has been doing art for more than 40 years. Her tranquil landscapes and figures seem to resonate with vibrant colors, dynamic compositions and tactile textures. The work of Carole is one to contemplate and reason with, which adds meaning to life and the joy of painting. Her work expands beyond the interpretation of paining but serves as a teaching tool for those who dare to look and observe about what a milestone artist has to say with technique, surface treatment and charm. The works exhibited are a melting pot of paintings, photographs, prints and pastel drawings. Carole says,” I paint because I am fascinated about how people look and who they are. I want to know how they feel about themselves and about the world in which they live. People are beautiful creations.” The works of Carole Katchen has been exhibited internationally and can be viewed at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, Baptist Health Center, Heifer Foundation, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital and many other places around the world. She has a working studio in Hot Springs, Arkansas and her work can be viewed at www.carolekatchen.com . The event is free and open to the public.

For more information about the exhibit, call Henri Linton, chairperson for the Department of Art at (870) 575-8236.
