PINE BLUFF, ARK. – The second in a series of three Risk Management Training classes for area farmers and ranchers is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the S.J. Parker Extension Complex on the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) campus. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with workshops getting underway at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
Training classes consist of three, day-long workshops. The third class will be Feb. 26.
“Although farmers and ranchers are expected to attend all three days of workshops, farmers or ranchers who missed the first session on Nov. 27 and are interested in risk management training are welcome to sign up and participate in the two remaining sessions,” says Dr. Henry English, director of the UAPB Small Farm Program.
Yearly weather extremes, increases in fuel and fertilizer costs, heir property issues, unexpected health problems and funding difficulties make a risk management plan crucial to success in farming today, says Dr. English.
Although most producers can benefit from the training classes, Dr. English especially recommends them to beginning farmers and ranchers. The Jan. 15 session will cover financial risks including balance sheets, cash flow statements, enterprise budgets and income statements.
Class size is limited and acceptance is on a first come, first served basis. Pre-registration is required. To pre-register, contact your local Extension associate.
