PINE BLUFF, Ark. – According to Shirley Cherry, Assistant Director in the Office of Career Services, Danny U. Burl, II is just one example of students who have followed the model designed by the office in preparing students to make the transition from backpack to briefcase. A December 2012 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), Danny has completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology in three and a half years with a 3.72 grade point average.
Danny recently accepted a position with Eaton Corporation in the Leadership Development Program. This program will provide rotational experience for three years with a focus on engineering, sales, marketing and leadership. Upon completion of the program, Danny will be prepared for a leadership role within Eaton Corporation.
While attending the University, Danny registered with Career Services his freshman year and took advantage of various summer internship opportunities including the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Tyson Foods, and Eaton Corporation. According to Mrs. Tracy Knowlton, Assistant Director for Cooperative Education and Internships, taking advantage of these internship opportunities allowed Danny to avoid the anxiety of the average college student looking for employment upon graduation.
Employers are looking for well-rounded students who can balance academics, work, volunteer experience, and campus involvement. Danny has held several leadership roles in various organizations on campus since his freshman year. He was President of the Freshman Class, National Society of Black Engineers, Talented Tenth, and Black Male Achievers. He was also Vice-President of the STEM Academy and Chief of Staff for the Student Government Association.
The Office of Career Services encourages all students to register with them and take advantage of the many career development opportunities beginning in their freshman year. The office is located in Caldwell Hall, Suite 202. For more information, call (870)575-8461.
