PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Office of Career Services at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is proud to announce a partnership with Tyson Foods, Inc. This is the beginning of an initiative in the Office of Career Services to create partnerships with local employers to hire UAPB students for internships, Cooperative Education, part-time, and permanent positions.
“By joining forces and forming a working partnership, businesses would be able to help create a pool of employees that will be part of an educated and trained workforce benefiting Pine Bluff’s economic growth,” states Mary Jones, Director of Career Services.
For the students at UAPB, having viable work experience will help them develop the skills and marketability needed to make the transition from college to the real world of work according to Shirley Cherry, Assistant Director.
Four students with grade point averages of 3.0 and above were selected by Tyson Foods for paid internships in the Fall Cooperative Education program and are eligible for a second semester: Martavius Alford, Junior Industrial Technology major with a 3.0 GPA from Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Valerie Webb, Senior Industrial Technology major with a 3.2 GPA from Little Rock, Arkansas; Taurean Morrow, Senior Agriculture Business major with a 3.6 GPA from Forrest City, Arkansas; and Brian Mixon, Senior Agriculture Business major with a 3.16 from Memphis, Tennessee.
The Office of Career Services’ efforts to build partnerships with local businesses will continue through a program funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Post-Secondary Education, Institutional Services Program (Title III, Part B, Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program). This program will allow the Office of Career Services to hire a Project/Program Specialist to work with local businesses to meet their hiring needs.
UAPB students are encouraged to register with the Office of Career Services and take full advantage of the many services and activities that are offered for career development and advancement. We are located in Caldwell Hall, Suite 202.
