PINE BLUFF, Ark.- The weeklong celebration for Homecoming at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will begin October 30 according to Dr. Charles Colen, Homecoming Committee chairperson.
The theme for this year is “Pride in the Pride.” Activities for the week include events for students as well as alumni and their families.
On Sunday, October 30th, the Lady Lions soccer team will host a game against Jackson State University at 1:00 p.m. That evening the Student Government Association (SGA) will sponsor a gospel concert at 6:00 p.m. in the John McLinn Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Center. Both events are free and open to the public.
A Homecoming Spirit Kick-off will be held Monday, October 31 at 12:00 pm in the Shirley Jacob Lions Den located in the L.A. Davis, Sr. Student Union. Senior Stunt Night will be held at 7 p.m. in the John McLinn Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Center. Admission to Senior Stunt Night is $4 for general admission and $3 with a canned good.
On Tuesday, November 1, at 10:30 a.m., the Black & Gold Pride Assembly will be held in the HPER Complex. Student organizations and individuals will compete for the “best show” with UAPB spirit.
On Wednesday, November 2 “Jazz in the Café” will be held in the L.A. Davis, Sr., Student Union Cafeteria. The cost is $5.50 for non-meal plan diners. All alumni, students, family and friends are invited to attend this SGA sponsored event.
Continuing with Wednesday, Jammie Robbins will officially be crowned Miss University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) during the Coronation Ceremony to be held at 6:30 p.m., in the HPER Complex. The Coronation Ball will begin immediately after the ceremony. Formal attire will be enforced.
For alumni, the Homecoming Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, November 3, at 8:30 a.m., at Harbor Oaks Golf Course in Pine Bluff Regional Park.
That afternoon, all are invited to the Community Pep Rally sponsored by Wal-Mart. This free, public event will be held from 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm on the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot located 5501 S. Olive street.
A bonfire will follow that evening at 10 p.m. on the HPER Complex parking lot following the Men’s Basketball game against Philander Smith College at 7 pm at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Admission to the basketball game is free for UAPB students with ID and $5 for general admission.
On Friday, November 4 the Annual Alumni Assembly will be held at 10 a.m. in the Clemmons Arena of the HPER Complex. An Alumni Awards Luncheon will be held thereafter at PJ’s Event Center. The Student Government Association (SGA) will sponsor a Greek Show that evening in the HPER Complex. Doors open at 6 pm.
An Alumni Dinner Banquet will also be held that evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Pine Bluff Convention Center Ballroom. Tickets to this National Alumni Association sponsored event can be purchased online at www.uapb-alumni.org or by calling (870)536-2309.
On the day of the game, Saturday, November 5, the Annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Downtown Pine Bluff.
Pre-game activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Golden Lion Stadium. Kick off time is 2:30 p.m. when the Golden Lions will face the Hornets of Alabama State University.
After the game, the UAPB Band Marching Festival will be held at 7 p.m. in the HPER Complex Arena.
