Robotics Institute offered June 18

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Nanotechnology integrates scientific and technology concepts from both the physical and life sciences and is easily related to curricula across STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields.

Because of the cross disciplinary nature of nanoscience, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will offer a Robotics/Nanoscience Institute June 18 through the 29 that can impact teachers in many areas of STEM and act as a mechanism to bring exciting new materials to the science curriculum in public schools. Teachers will learn in a hands-on information-rich learning environment and trained to perform nanoscience experiments in the classroom.

The goal of the institute is to: a) improve the quantity and quality of teacher content knowledge and understanding of nanoscience; b) increase teachers’ use of inquiry in cooperative group learning experiences in their classrooms; c) retrain teachers with instructional strategies and materials to improve student learning and understanding of nanoscience; and d) teach lessons tied to Arkansas Science Frameworks with real world applications.

To register for the Institute, call Dr. Shelton Fitzpatrick at (870)575-8752.
